The Juniors are working on To Kill A Mockingbird analysis essays this week, and this is the advice I put on the white board while they work.
My directions were simple: if your quotes pass all the tests, they’re good enough for your essay. If your analysis does these three jobs, it’s actual analysis and not just fluff.
Affect vs. Effect: We discussed the loopholes, but for the purposes of how these are most often confused, I enjoy this very much. Also because anything to taunt my Steelers-loving students.
Future of education…
I wanted to take today to show off some of the fantastic posters my students have created in response to our Romeo & Juliet/Movie update project. The task was to take a scene from Act IV of R&J and use that scene as a springboard to pitch a new take on the famous play.
As you can see from some of these, my students did a FANTASTIC job of coming up with compelling new ways to translate the story. It’s really easy to see, when looking at these, how the kids translated the central Montague/Capulet feud into a variety of different takes.
I’m really proud of the kids. I’ve been doing this project for three years and these are some of the best takes on it I’ve seen.
Flow chart of productivity…aka let’s get stuff done!
Great way to make sure students are working on what they should be, especially when working on writing papers.
